    Dear Readers,

Please join me and the University of South Florida in raising awareness and generating grassroots support for USF’s outstanding research in diabetes and autoimmune disorders and for the advancement of needed integrated clinical care.

Currently, there are 23.6 million children and adults in the United States, or 7.8% of our overall population, who have diabetes. This includes 10.4% Hispanics and 14.7% African-Americans over the age of 20 who have been diagnosed with diabetes.

Researchers at USF are focused on finding a cause, preventing, and curing this often debilitating disease.

Your advocacy is needed to help bring advanced integrated care and a cure home. To learn more, please visit http://www.supportusfdiabetesresearchandtreatment.org. We are looking for “friends” not funds.

Please forward this message and website to your family, friends and colleagues.

Through a unified effort, we can advance this good cause.

    Thank you,

    Vinny Tafuro, President
    Tafuro Communications, Inc.

According to this AP article in the NY Times I have contributed $8 personally this year to the salary of a bank CEO through bailout funds.

    Tis the season!

Gator haters or not; Heisman Trophy voters shouldn’t be able to leave someone off. Voter fatigue is inexcusable within the citizenry, but within this award process it is simply political and should not be allowed.

Some Heisman Voters Just Hate Gators, Says Tebow

No third-place finisher in the trophy’s history ever received more first-place votes.

Tebow, however, also received the most third-place votes, and, here’s the tell-tale explanation, 154 voters left the Florida quarterback off their ballots.

Tebow finished 151 points behind the winner. That means had the 154 voters ranked him at least third, Tebow would have won by three points.

  • City of Tampa firefighters might take a lesson from the recent changes made by the non-profit that provides relief many who lose their home to fire.

    According to the Tampa Tribune:

With donors tightening their purse strings and investments hurting, the local chapter of the American Red Cross has laid off 22 employees, almost half its staff.

The remaining staff all will be taking a salary reduction as part of a larger expense-reduction plan.

It is our volunteers that are going to ensure we have no interruption in service.

First responders are important but like non-profit workers and other public servants they are here for the benefit of the community as a whole, which may require restraint during times when the community they serve as a whole is restrained.

Found this PSA today that is an awareness test focused on watching out for cyclists. I have been intrigued by this kind of visual test in the past and thought I’d pass this one on.

I was not quite aware when I first saw it too.
